The Rev. Dr. Michael Mattox came to First Church in 2004, having served six years as the Little Rock District Superintendent. Dr. Mattox is a graduate of Hendrix College (1976) and attended Emory University and Saint Paul School of Theology where he received a Master of Divinity degree in 1980. In 2004 he received a Doctorate of Ministry degree from SMU (Perkins School of Theology) in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Mattox has a history of strong pastoral leadership in Arkansas and Missouri, and a passion for outreach ministry, diversity and inclusiveness. His previous local church appointments include Houstonia Circuit (Houstonia, Blackwater Chapel, Bethel and Dresden UMC's) in the Missouri Area, Pea Ridge/Oakley Chapel Charge, Fayetteville's Sequoyah UMC and First UMC in Arkadelphia.
Dr. Mattox and his wife, Judy (Garrison), were married in 1975 and have two grown children and two grandchildren. Judy is a Parent Educator with Arkansas CARES, associated with UAMS.
